Manchester City will kick off their Champions League 2024-25 campaign when they welcome Inter to the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Both sides are unbeaten so far in their domestic campaigns but Pep Guardiola's men will also put on the line an all-win record after five games following the 2-1 win against Brentford last weekend.

On Sunday, the Italian giants last played out a 1-1 draw against Monza in Serie A.

Nathan Ake is ruled out with a hamstring injury, while Oscar Bobb is sidlined on account of a leg fracture, while Savinho remains a minor doubt but expected to be available after featuring in the Brentford win.

With Erling Haaland continuing to lead the line, Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku could be recalled in the XI.

After making rotations for Nerazzurri's weekend tie, head coach Simone Inzaghi is likely to revert to the side that started in the 4-0 win over Atalanta ahead of the international break.

Moreover, the likes of Denzel Dumfries, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez were all restricted to limited roles in the Monza draw.

City, which has won the last four league titles, denies the charges, which include providing misleading information about its finances. It will be down to a team of lawyers to clear the club’s name and finally quash accusations that have cast a cloud over its unprecedented period of success.

City was accused by the Premier League in February last year of providing misleading information about its finances over a nine-year period between 2009-18 after it was bought by Abu Dhabi’s ruling family in 2008. City was trying to establish itself as one of the leading clubs in Europe, signed some of the world’s best players like Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne and won three league titles — in 2012, 2014 and 2018.

The league’s financial fair play rules are designed to ensure clubs essentially spend what they earn and commercial deals are assessed for being at legitimate market value.

The charges came after a four-year investigation and following the publication of leaked emails and documents, likely hacked, that were published starting in 2018 by German magazine Der Spiegel. The documents allegedly showed attempts to cover up the source of City’s income in a bid to comply with Financial Fair Play rules operated by European soccer’s governing body UEFA and the Premier League.

Manchester City have hit the ground running this season, picking up four wins in as many games so far in the Premier League season. Their latest game was a 2-1 win over Brentford over the weekend.

Inter Milan come into the match with two wins and two draws in their four Serie A matches so far this season. They started their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Genoa and followed it up with wins over Lecce and Atalanta. They were held to a 1-1 draw by Monza at the weekend.
